Applique trick

Once I was helping my roommate with a quilt square and I had to go to 3 different stores before I found freezer paper. Apparently nobody uses freezer paper these days, and I honestly don't know what it's for outside of quilting.

I found another way to make applique pieces lay down the way you want them to here:

Thought you guys might like it.

  1. That looks like a great idea. I think I'll try it. It would probably work on other shapes, too. I've been trying to do more applique. I love the look of it, but I just can't do it well by hand, so I've been experimenting with different techniques. I got my best results using basting glue to temporarily hold down the applique and stitching on the machine with invisible thread and the blind hem stitch.
That whole website, or blog, or whatever it is, is a good one, too. So many cute things!

  2. This looks like too much trouble to me! I don't get why you need the foil. Why not just press the fabric edge around the cardboard? For circles, I like the method where you use a thin cardboard circle, cut the fabric a little bigger, then run a basting stitch around the edge and pull it tight around the cardboard circle. Then press it and remove the cardboard. As you applique the circle, you can adjust the basting stitch if you need to, to keep the edge smooth.
